The French Champagne region is known for its belemnite chalk deposits. The specific pore structure of the chalk terrain accumulates moisture and gives it back to the vines regularly. This promotes their growth and lends the Chardonnay grapes a brut-aromatic flavor. The belemnite deposits also provide Champagne chalk with a warm, gray color that made it popular with artists early on. The Violette brand of chalk used here is opaque, warm, beautifully colored, and rich. Champagne white paint unfolds in space like a landscape of gently rolling hills.

"Their colors are just unbelievably beautiful, whether the sun is shining, or it's rainy weather, or night, with every play of light they look different again. Incredible."
