According to Dionysian mythology, the elements of creation, such as matter, life, light, and color, arose out of the deepest darkness. This darkness, which precedes any wisdom but also transcends it, cannot be qualified or expressed in words. Describing this color, which is made only of binder, ultramarine blue and ivory black, confronts us with a similar problem. It is easier to fall back on an analogy to describe it: Ultramarine black 90 is the inky-black color of the cloudless sky when there is a new moon.
