Lightening the pigment cobalt blue results in gray-blue pastel shades that serve a different design purpose than those made with ultramarine blue. While the similarly light color KT 32.022 Medium ultramarine blue appears to dissolve edges and create weightless, retreating forms, Misty blue appears to strengthen the form and make it more substantial. Light shades of ultramarine blue look immaterialized, Misty blue looks present and tangible. This difference is linked to the pigments: the ultramarine chemistry is like that of the ozone in the sky, but cobalt blue is metallic.
Customer feedback
"Their colors are just unbelievably beautiful, whether the sun is shining, or it's rainy weather, or night, with every play of light they look different again. Incredible."
