This color was found in the kitchens of one of the large-scaled concrete housing projects Le Corbusier designed in the 1950s. The inherently colored raw materials that defined the new building style prompted the architect to give preference to bold colors, and the desire to maintain an equilibrium between each color on the palette called for more saturated ochres than those used in the white architecture of the 1920s. Gold ochre is made with a synthetic iron oxide pigment, which is why it is more opaque and denser than paints made with the more sparkling natural ochres.
