This color corresponds to the ancient Greeks’ first red, called Sinopia. The term refers to the “dry, glowing red earth from Sinop,” referring to the geographic origin, but also to the warm, red ground itself. Greek antiquity had an entire compendium of terms such as Sinopia, which did not represent spectral colors but specific materials, sensory impressions and statements of origin. Spice red is powerful, emanating warmth and an earthbound presence – all of which are implied by the term Sinopia.

"Their colors are just unbelievably beautiful, whether the sun is shining, or it's rainy weather, or night, with every play of light they look different again. Incredible."
