A full but muted spectrum of colors can be mixed using ochre, red ochre, umber, and ultramarine. The discriminating addition of this restrained rainbow palette to an uncolored white produces this silvery, shimmering color. The invisible components play with the light, and the silver-white areas can assume a broad spectrum of appearances, ranging from cool and shady to warm and sunny. Silver white is so sensitive in its response to the light because it contains trace amounts of all spectral colors.
