The ancient Greeks already knew how to produce red dyes from Rubia tinctorum, or dyer’s madder. Even though it was very expensive to process these dyes, they spread throughout Europe following the Crusades in the Middle Ages. The industrial revolution led to the development of more lightfast alternatives to dyer’s madder, such as the one in use here. Burgundy red is a color of classic elegance that performs well even under artificial lighting, and in the shadows its noble effect is heightened.

"Their colors are just unbelievably beautiful, whether the sun is shining, or it's rainy weather, or night, with every play of light they look different again. Incredible."
