The dark yellow Siena pigment this color is made from is known by the trade name Sahara. It has a color between umbra and ochre. This color characteristic makes it interesting for interiors and exteriors. Umbra appears subdued and shadowy, while traditional ochres appear brighter and warmer; colors made from the sandy Sahara pigment appear simply earthy and almost color-neutral. Le Corbusier liked to use this ochre, for example in the Villa La Roche for the built-in shelves behind the balustrade to the gallery. Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret did not imitate wood with this color - that would have been contrary to their taste - but materialized the built-in concrete elements with Sahara moyen to match the other muted colors of the villa. The picture shows the color Sahara moyen in the quality ktCOLOR Satinée. It looks modest and gave precedence to the books and the art that used to be in the villa.
