When Yves Klein chose ultramarine blue for his monochrome paintings, he situated himself within the tradition of medieval color symbolism, which believed that this blue embodied the transcendent and the infinite. In 1958 he deposited the formula for his “International Klein Blue” with the INPI in France. The color is a great attractor, and multimedia artist André Heller selected it for use in the visitor center of Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Austria. The formulation shown here was developed at his request; it is wonderfully close to Yves Klein’s color.

"Their colors are just unbelievably beautiful, whether the sun is shining, or it's rainy weather, or night, with every play of light they look different again. Incredible."
