The widespread concern that dark colors make walls heavy and oppressive is superfluous. Dark surfaces appear to retreat instead, and this stimulates the imagination. A wall painted with Ultramarine black 85 in a bedroom is an excellent choice! The dark surface disappears into the night and calls forth the spirit of seduction. In an office, a wall painted with Ultramarine black 85 looks profound, and this encourages creativity. As Derek Jarman put it: “In the black coal fire lives the spirit of storytelling.”
