Deep blue is sensational as a completely matt emulsion-, silicate-, or glue-based paint. Formulation guides in the older literature of craftsmen provided us with useful mixing instructions: a beautiful dark blue is created by adding ivory black and a small amount of marble to ultramarine blue. The dusky, velvety blue that results resonates into niches and corners, much like the vibrantly deep tones of organ music. No other pigment mixtures will achieve this resounding effect.
